Phew, it was a busy trio of days.
- Thursday:
Got up at Early AM to make the bus going to Albany and failed horribly at my attempt to sleep during the journey over. Once in Albany I had a short 10min walk over to Empire State Plaza to meet Tom as he got out of work. I arrived about an hour before his time to leave, but with a nice breeze in the air, I just sat out by the fountains and did some reading. After he finished his last half day, he met up with me and we headed over to Bomber's (home of the greatest Tacos, Burritos, and "disco fries" ever) for lunch. Then it was off to Dunk's to get our free ice coffee and then the mall so Tom could get a haircut and look nice for his graduation. I also coaxed him into finally getting me a past due birthday present (the DVD he was going to order changed licensing hands so that messed things up) because of "interest" I got the latest volume of Shonan Junai Gumi (GTO The Early Years) and the DVD of Lupin III: The Secret of Mamo, thus completing my set of all the Lupin DVDs put out my Pioneer/Geneon. The FYE we got the Lupin DVD at was having a Buy One, Get One, on all Geneon anime DVDs, but I couldn't see/think of anything I wanted that wouldn't leave me with a new series to start. After the mall is was back to bro's place to relax and then get ready for the farewell party for the Albany Law School students. It was a nice reception at the Crowne Plaza in Albany, but by the end the room started to get warm and I began to have flashbacks to AB dances. My Uncle and Aunt showed up and joined us part way through and my other Aunt and cousin also arrived toward the end. At the end of the evening The relatives went to get some rest and Tom, Adrienne and I went with some of Tom's friends to a bar in Albany for a little while afterwards before heading home.
- Friday
Chlly day, but the weather stayed friendly enough that the graduation events at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (yes, Albany Law's graduation was in Saratoga). Many of us thought the commencement speaker was a little depressing, but things went well enough. Afterwards the group from last night plus Dad and his wife and Tom's parents-in-law went out to lunch at an Irish place in Saratoga. One glass of Guinness and a club sandwhich for lunch and I was feeling pretty full for a good long while. On the way back to the house, the clouds finally decided it was time to start raining, so the informal gathering of family and friends at Tom and Adrienne's for a celebratory barbecue qwew canceled and the family just hung out at the house for awhile discussing various things. Dad and his wife headed out part way through. By the time later in the evening rolled around, we decided to all go to Friday's for dinner, which was fine for dishes of varying appetites. I was still a little full from lunch myself, but got a good small sandwich. When the trip to Friday's was done, everyone started to go their different ways, Tom got a text from some of is ALS friends to join them at a small gathering to say goodbye to some people and celebrate graduation a bit more. He invited me to go along, and it was a nice little time. Every so often people would say one of the catchphrases the group had acquired over the last three years, but of course I didn't know any of them. I kept wanting to start one from AB Staff, but then would remember that no one else but me would know them. Around 12:45 Tom and I headed home and I more or less fell right asleep.
-Saturday
Got up at not-so-early AM to get the bus back to Boston. I was glad to see the weather was nice for all the MCLA (as well as non MCLA) people graduating today. Again no sleep and a sort neck on the bus ride, but I survived. I always enjoy the view of Boston coming off the Mass Pike, and it continues to make me feel like I'm really coming home, but the gorgeous weather just made it even more of a welcoming sight. After leaving the bus it was down the Red Line to hang with Jenna and Keith before we all went to Melissa's graduation party which was a lot of fun. I would've liked to stay a bit longer, but I needed to make sure I caught the last train home and now that I'm settled, I'm definitely hearing the siren call of my own bed and how it's missed me the last two nights.
